2024 MEN IN DANCE Festival: Call for Submissions

Submission Deadline: APRIL 30, 2024 | Choreographers chosen notified by MAY 31, 2024

MEN IN DANCE, a Seattle-based nonprofit in its 26th operating year, is seeking submissions for its 2024 Festival which will run October 4,5, & 6 at the Erickson Theatre in Seattle, WA.

CRITERIA

The Board of Producers is seeking works that encompass the broad range of concert dance, including but not limited to Contemporary, Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Musical Theatre, or any creative dance medium fit for a stage performance.

We encourage all submissions but will be prioritizing those with multiple dancers (small groups preferred). Choreographers may be of any gender expression; in following our mission, all performers must be male.

The MID Artistic Committee will review all submissions, and will choose between 6 to 8 pieces of work. Artists selected for participation will each receive a stipend of $500 for their work, as well as $200 for each of their participating dancers, at the conclusion of the Festival weekend.

SUBMISSIONS

We have created an online portal for ease of submission, where you can submit your proposal details, a short bio, and links to work samples for our review.

Please visit submit.menindance.org to submit your proposal.

THE HISTORY OF DANCE
and ART as we know it would be nowhere without the many Black voices who lent themselves and their visions to the world we live in. VoiceS like those of ALVIN AILEY, JOSEPHINE BAKER, MASTER JUBA, KATHERINE DUNHAM, BILL “BOJANGLES” ROBINSON, PEARL PRIMUS, and more.

We cannot in good faith stay silent as day after day we witness these voices robbed from us at the hands of SYSTEMIC RACISM, INJUSTICE, and OPPRESSION. Too many lives have been lost.

We call upon our artists, our patrons, and EVERYONE WHO READS THIS MESSAGE to join us in solidarity with our Black siblings as we fight for their IDENTITIES, their VOICES, and their LIVES.
This will not end without all of us working together for what is right.
