MEN IN DANCE has a mission: to finding, supporting and producing cutting-edge male-oriented concert dance in all of its colors. To continue to honor and build on that mission we are asking choreographers creating new works to submit a proposal for our upcoming Choreographers Showcase.

In this format we will produce 5 choreographers and present their work over three days of performances. Following each showing of the pieces, there will be a live feedback session held onstage with an adjudicated panel of dance professionals and a moderator. Audience members are also invited to write their feedback for each piece, and these feedback cards will be distributed to choreographers for their creative benefit.

Each choreographer will receive a stipend for their work, and at least one artist will be invited back to join us for our Festival in the Fall of 2026.

Our criteria are as follows:

  • Choreographers of all sexes and gender expressions are welcome to apply; all performers must be male.

  • All disciplines of dance are encouraged to apply. Small group pieces are preferred, though solos will be seriously considered.

  • Finished piece should be no longer than 10 minutes in length

The 2025 MEN IN DANCE Choreographers Showcase will take place at The
Erickson Theatre in Seattle, WA on September 26, 27, 28 of 2025; tech rehearsals and a photographed dress rehearsal for each piece will precede the event on Thursday, September 25.

To apply, click the link below and submit a short description of your work, 1-3 work samples of 3-5 minutes in length, and your most current Resume or CV:

The deadine for submissions is April 30, 2025.

THE HISTORY OF DANCE
and ART as we know it would be nowhere without the many Black voices who lent themselves and their visions to the world we live in. VoiceS like those of ALVIN AILEY, JOSEPHINE BAKER, MASTER JUBA, KATHERINE DUNHAM, BILL “BOJANGLES” ROBINSON, PEARL PRIMUS, and more.

We cannot in good faith stay silent as day after day we witness these voices robbed from us at the hands of SYSTEMIC RACISM, INJUSTICE, and OPPRESSION. Too many lives have been lost.

We call upon our artists, our patrons, and EVERYONE WHO READS THIS MESSAGE to join us in solidarity with our Black siblings as we fight for their IDENTITIES, their VOICES, and their LIVES.
This will not end without all of us working together for what is right.
