Jeremy (子豪) Yuan is a collaborative and cross-cultural artist whose diverse background in dance spans performance, choreography, education, and research. As a gay man and queer Chinese dancer, his personal identity shapes his artistic vision, making him a strong advocate for inclusivity and representation in dance. Based in Seattle, Jeremy is a choreographer, researcher, and educator. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the Shanghai Theatre Academy (2012) and his Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Washington (2024).

Jeremy’s career as a dancer has taken him around the world, with performances in China, the U.S., the U.K., South Korea, and Japan. His work as a choreographer reflects his ability to integrate Eastern and Western dance forms, producing unique and thought-provoking pieces that explore cultural intersections. As an educator, Jeremy has shared his expertise in Chinese Classical and Folk Dance, Ballet, and Modern and Contemporary Dance at institutions worldwide. Through his research, Jeremy seeks to broaden the dialogue on gender and sexuality in the world of dance, creating space for underrepresented voices.

Jeremy believes in the transformative power of dance, viewing it as a bridge that connects cultures, identities, and souls. For him, dance is more than movement; it is a deeply spiritual practice rooted in his core. His lifelong commitment to dance is reflected in his ongoing contributions to the global dance community through his choreography, research, performance, and teaching.

program notes

This is a work/space where I felt struggling with my personal journey in exploring my true identity, especially in dance. I use the name "Do Not..." to remind myself to not bond too much in every dimensions. And yes, this is the space where I should "do not..."
