Madeline Maxine Roman (she/her) is talkative and loud. That's partly due to being hard of hearing, but primarily because she proudly embraces her queer, disabled, and neurodivergent identity. One of Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch, she is the Artistic Director of GRIDLOCK Dance in Washington, DC. A standout force among Gen Z choreographers, she has received numerous commissions, pays her company members an hourly wage, and presents her work across the country. Her work is “intellectually probing, politically minded, and personally revelatory” (Dance Magazine), “conceptually rich and ambitious” (Maryland Theatre Guide), and “boldly explores technology's downsides” (Washington City Paper). Recent engagements include Pentacle's APAP Showcase (NY), a National Portrait Gallery commission (DC), James Madison University guest choreographer (VA), Dance Loft and Mid-Atlantic Arts commission (DC), Montgomery College Artist-in-Residence (MD), Rutgers University ChoreoLab (NJ), Choreographer Career Development Initiative (GA), Atlas Arts Lab Fellowship (DC), and Dance Place's Dance and Disability Residency (DC).
The Creation of Honeysuckle was supported by the Atlas Arts Lab Fellowship.
